On the second day of RTI Commissioner Lam Thanthiya Kumari's review meeting, the District Revenue Officer (DRO) Mr. B.Yadagiri took exception to the approach of some RTI activists, here on Friday. When the commissioner started the meeting, RTI activists Mr. Pithani Ramu, Mr. Chetana, Mr. Kuchimanchi Prakash, Mr. V.Suresh and others questioned her over starting the meeting without protocal officials. After this, the Commissioner stayed away from the meeting from one-and-a-half hours and went to the R&B Guest house. The DRO Mr. B.Yadagiri explained to her that he was held up in a flood review meeting and brought the commissioner to the venue. When the meeting started again, the RTI activists started bombarding officials with questions. Mr. Yadagiri objected to the manner in which RTI activists were conducting themselves. He said, 'It is only an awareness camp, activists should seek information or submit grievances in a proper manner and should not gril officials in public'. The RTI activists were hijacking the meeting and not allowing others to speak, he added. Responding to this, the commissioner objected his comments and said that RTI activists were expressing their anguish and were explaining the conduct of officials while giving information. Later, reviewing the implementation of the RTI Act in various departments, Mrs. Thanthiya Kumari suggested the officials to send their replies only in Telugu and through registered post to avoid penalties. She advised officials to gain knowledge about the Act, follow it for good governance, and cooperate in promoting the act.
