Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK), here on Saturday, organized a national seminar on ‘Polavaram Irrigation Project'. Rajahmundry MP, Mr. Undavalli Arun Kumar, participated as the chief guest and inaugurated the session. Mr. Arun Kumar said that the project was getting delayed only due to political reasons, but not because of technical issues. He said that none of the projects launched by the former Chief Minister Mr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy were affected badly due to his sudden death except the Polavaram irrigation project. Observing that the project would help the generation of 960 MW of hydel power which could be used to the lift irrigation projects in Telangana region, Mr. Arun Kumar said that of the 3,000 TMC of Godavari water that was joining the sea every year, 194 TMC of water could be stored due to this project passed a resolution stating that all the water resources must be in the possession of the Central government. Member of the Prime Minister's monitoring committee on JNNURM, Mr. R.V. Rama Rao said that a 20-member technical committee that studied the possibility of Polavaram project had come out with a report stating that it was the only project that would help all the regions add-ons. Vice-Chancellor of JNTU-K, Prof. Allam Appa Rao presided this session. ZP Chairman Mr. Ch. Venugopalakrishna, Rector of the JNTUK Mr. K. Satya Prasad, Registrar Mr. V. Ravindra, Directors Mr. G.V.R. Prasada Raju, Mr. K.V.S.G. Murali Krishna and others were present.
