All - India Coconut Growers Meeting

All India Kisan Sabha is conducting a two-day All-India coconut Growers Meet to discuss the problems of coconut growers across the nation. It will commence at Ambedkar Bhavan here on Sunday. Coconut growers from Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Orissa, Goa and Pondicherry will participate in the meet. President of the A.I.K.S and former MP from Kerala Mr. C.K. Chandrappan demanded that the government to announce a minimum support price for coconut, which should not be less than Rs.7 per piece. In a press conference here on Saturday, He said that the coconut growers were facing many problems, as there was not support and guidance from the Government to improve the yield. He accused the Central and the State Governments of failing in addressing the problems and demanded that a special package must be announced immediately to protect the interests of the growers. Pension to the aged workers of coconut groves and financial support to their families were the other demands made by Mr. Chandrappan. General Secretary of the Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham Mr. Ravula Venkaiah said leaders of all political parties were expected to take part in the meet.
