Leaders of opposition parties in the District will block all the major roads in the District on 11th of December in order to bring pressure on the Government to address the problems of farmers. A decision to this affect was taken at the all-party meet held at the Telugu Desam Party office here on Sunday. Leaders from the Left parties and the Lok Satta Party participated in the meeting. The meeting demanded that the Government should announce Minimum Support Price (MSP) to the discoloured paddy and announce a bonus of Rs. 200 per quintal. The leaders sought a MSP of Rs. 4,500 per quintal, Rs. 2,500 per tonne for sugarcane in addition to labor and transport charges and Rs. 7,500 per tonne for oil palm and immediate payment of amount overdue to the farmers. The party leaders, accompanied by farmers' representatives, will visit Pratipadu and Jaggampeta Assembly constituencies on Monday, Konaseema on Tuesday and Eastern Delta on Wednesday to get first hand information about the impact of heavy rains and cyclone that hit the District last month. Former Minister Mr. Chikkala Ramachandra Rao, Former MLA Mr. Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao and Mr. Ganni Krishna from the TDP, Mr. Meesala Satyanarayana and Mr. Katta Satyanarayana from the CPI, Mr. Dadala Subba Rao from the CPI (M), Mr. Sundara Gangadhar from the Lok Satta Party and others participated in the meeting.
