The activists of Mala Mahanadu tried to prevent the activists of Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) from setting up camps for hunger strike demanding categorization of Scheduled Castes. Tension prevailed near the District Collector's office here on Monday due to this. The activists of Mala Mahanadu, who already set up a camp on Sunday in which their leader Mr. R.S. Ratnakar was staging indefinite fast opposing the categorization, entered into a quarrel with the activists of the MRPS who reached there in two groups. While one group of the MRPS activists were led by Mr. Chinna Subba Rao, who sat on relay fast, the other group led by evicted leader from the MRPS Mr. Kondepudi Syambabu, who sat on indefinite fast – both demanding the categorization. The police involved and separated both the groups. They made it clear that the activists of the MRPS too had equal right to stage agitation and allowed them to set up camps. A police picket was arranged at the Collectorate to ensure that there should not be any reach for the occurrence of unpleasant incidents. Local leaders from both Mala and Madiga castes visited the camps and announced unity with the agitating leaders. Officials announced that 144 Section has been promulgated at the surrounding areas of Collectorate. Kakinada DSP Lakshmi Narayana stated that until and unless Mr. Ratnakar stops his relay hunger strike, this section would be active. Mass people conducting any kind of dharnas, usage of sound systems, etc; are not tolerated he added.
