Why are we on Earth?
That’s a universal question that might go around in every human mind at some time in their life...Why we are Only on Earth and not on the 8 other planets circling the Sun? For an answer to this, we need to travel a long long time back...
Of all the planets in the universe, there is only one planet in just the right distance from the Sun with a perfect climate. It is called the Lucky planet...the Earth!

What it took to create our Earth on which life could exist?
About 5 billion years ago, a huge asteroid crashed into Earth tilting it at an angle exactly to 23.5 degrees to Sun. This turned out to be a miracle. Without that crucial tilt, everything would have been different. For it created the seasons, extremes of climate both hot & cold, landscapes with spectacular beauty. But, does it have all the perfect conditions for human existence and life?
4.5 billion Years ago, when the Earth is very young and it just began to form, our Earth would have certainly looked very different. The sea is full of Iron and the atmosphere is lot thicker than it is today. An ocean full of Iron would have appeared green and the denser atmosphere would have given a reddish ting to the Sky. Conditions for human existence are better, the temperature cooled and the water is present to sustain life. But, there is still one horrendous problem, no Oxygen and without it there is no way a human or animal could exist! Gases like Nitrogen, Carbon Dioxide & Methane ruled the atmosphere. Then after half a billion years, the Earth gradually cooled but there was still no oxygen in the atmosphere...
...the story did not end. Here is it introducing the first ever strange living structures which are the reason behind our existence today on Earth. The "Stromatolites", which are formed 2.5 Billion years ago! The living part of this Stramatolites (appears like brittle black rocks) are made up of Blue & Green Bacteria that grow using photosynthesis, taking energy from the sun they convert Carbon dioxide into Oxygen. It is due to this process of giving out Oxygen, we have the planet Earth as we know today and habitants like us humans, animals and planets are able to live on planet Earth. These fossils Stramatolites are 15 times older than the dinosaurs and the oxygen that these grand grand grand fossils emitted slowly changed the Earth condition to what it is today. The oxygen emitted was initially absorbed by the ancient Ocean Waters gradually turning them blue due to the chemical reactions and the Sky cooler & to the color of what it is we know.Only before 500 million years ago, the Earth perfectly was fit to sustain Human, Animals and Plants Life. And all the Life Started!
Phew! That was a long journey in the making of Earth as a breath worthy!
Now what are we doing to our great grand mother, Earth, who worked hard not for just for those 9–months but for 4.5 Billion long years to stand as the ONLY safe living breathing planet?
What is Global Warming?

We now know that the Earth’s climate has fluctuated so much striking from ice ages to warmer periods. But in the last century, the planet’s temperature has risen unusually vast about 1.2F to 1.4F. Scientists believe it is human activities that are increasing the temperature levels up, a process know as Global Warming.
Ever since the industrial revolution began, factories, power plants and eventually individuals using cars and electrical appliances has burnt fossil fuels releasing huge amounts of gases such as Carbon Dioxide, Methane, Nitrogen dioxide etc into the atmosphere. These green house gases trap heat near the Earth called the Green house effect. Naturally occurring gases in the atmosphere traps some of this energy and reflect it back warming the Earth. Green house effect is being intensified by these extra gases that humans have released.
Evidence of Global Warming includes the recent string of very warm years. Scientists declared 1998 was the warmest year of history and 2005 coming second.
As long as humans increase their fossil fuel consumption, the concentration of Green house gases in the atmosphere continues to rise. NASA scientists reports that the temperatures will increase from 2 to 10 degree Fahrenheit by the end of the century.
What it means for the planet if just 1 degree Fahrenheit is raised?
- The Artic is Ice-free raising sea levels flooding & wiping out coastal areas along Bay of Bengal
- Weather patterns will changes making hurricanes more frequent
- Severe droughts could become more common in warmer areas
- Species unable to face changing conditions would face extinction
- Evolution of New Desserts
Would you now dare to imagine a 10 degree F raise in temperature?
60+ Earth Hour – International
WWF (World Wildlife Fund) is the first ever Organization who recognized the need for reducing our carbon footprint and started to act with The World’s Biggest Grassroots Biological Movement in the History...The 60+ Earth Hour!

Earth Hour campaigns pledge switching off non-essential lights for one hour on March 26th between 8:30pm to 9:30pm. This radically decreases electricity usage percentage over one hour and thus the carbon emissions.
Last Saturday of March is opted as the day of the Event since around this time the Spring and Autumn equinoxes in the northern and southern hemispheres respectively, which allows for near coincidental sunset times in both hemispheres, thereby ensuring the greatest visual impact for a global ’lights out’ event.
The whole thing has significance!
It all started in the year 2007 at Sydney, the Australia’s largest City! It passed on the dramatic message of Global Warming and 2.2 million people keenly switched off lights.
According to figures, electricity consumption for the 2007 event in Sydney was 10.2% lower during the Hour. The Herald Sun equated this with "taking 48,613 cars off the road for 1 hour."
In 2008, it went Global in 400 Cities as a hope for the future of our planet.
In 2009, the symbol of switching off lights united the planet across the world to vote for planet Earth speaking with one voice ’now is the time...’
In 2010, Earth Hour reached 1 Billion people Worldwide and stood as the One Action against the devastating effects of Climate Change due to Global Warming.
And it continued motivating and educating us...

- These will save on your energy bills overtime:
- Fit energy saving light bulbs
- Install thermostatic valves on your radiators
- Insulate your hot water tank, your loft and your walls
- Installing cavity wall installation
- Recycle your grey water
- Replace your old fridge / freezer (if it is over 15 years old), with a new one with energy efficiency rating of "A"
- Replace your old boiler with a new energy efficient condensing boiler
Outside Home
- Use the bus or a train rather than your car
- For short journeys either walk or cycle
- Next time you replace your car – try diesel engines
- When staying in a hotel – turn the lights and air–conditioning off when you leave your hotel room
- Don’t buy bottled water if your tap water is safe to drink
- Buy local fruit and vegetables, or even try growing your own
- Buy foods that are in season locally
- Don’t buy fresh fruit and vegetables which are out of season
- Reduce your consumption of meat
- Use more organic produce
- Don’t buy over packaged products
- Recycle as much as possible
Now our planet struggles to support our growing demands. This is the time to take a stock of what we have and what we stand to loose. We are here on Earth to join our fellow creatures who struggle to grow their young in the world which is rapidly changing.
It’s comprehensible!
Make a promise: I am only one but I do because I can do it for my homeland...for me and...for my family!
Love Earth. It Bears Us. Respect Life. It allows us to experience the beauty of human relations & nature!
