The second day strike of Textile Merchants held successfully in the district, here on Sunday. According to this, all the cloth showrooms were closed in the distict. They had conducted a protest in support of Kakinada Cloth & Readymade Merchants Welfare Association, against bringing textiles under the Sensitive Commodities Act and delay in complete abolition of Value Added Tax (VAT). They were conducted a protest camp at Mainroad in Kakinada here, raising slogans against the State Government’s decision to impose VAT on all categories of cloth traders. Speaking on this, they declared that the strike will be stopped only if the state government is going to solve their demands. Association President Mr. Bulchand has stated that 'no other state in the country is having this much of VAT tax as it is imposed much in our state only'. Around 5 crores of business was stopped according to this strike in the district, sources said. Association Secretary Mr. Suresh, Mr. Sona Kumar and others participated in the program.
