Hyderabad, Oct. 24th: Memorabilia and souvenirs of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YSR Reddy are selling like hotcakes across the state. Reddy, who died in a helicopter crash on September 2, was a cult figure and people want to buy anything that has Reddy's signature mark. Seeing the surge in demand, various shops have started stacking wall clocks, key chains with Reddy's photos especially ordered from China.
'When YSR Reddy died I thought he was in the hearts and minds of people. We have put up his photos and memorabilia on display windows of our mobile phone shop. It's drawing a lot of shoppers to the shop. A lot of people are asking for them. We have not done it for publicity. We want YSR Reddy to be on everyone's mind and house. We have ordered them from China,' said Banwarlal, a shopkeeper.
Reddy's figurines with waving hands are attracting onlookers curious enough to venture into the shop selling them and finally buying them. 'People were deeply saddened by the death of YSR Reddy. We always would like to see him alive. So buying his memorabilia and keeping in our houses would remind us of his presence,' said YS Abhimani. Importing these made on order souvenirs from Chinese manufacturers costs much less to these shoppers than sourcing them from domestic markets.
