Youth threatens to end life

Kakinada, Oct 14th: A youth named V. Lakshmana Kumar Swamy 25, threatened to kill himself by falling down from the cell phone tower at the Mainraod junction here on Wednesday. He was demanding the government to take prompt action against an upper class group who occupied land at his native village Vedurupaka Savaram in Rayavaram Mandal.

On being informed about the situation police, revenue and fire officials rushed to the spot. Kumar came to the city along with his friends on Wednesday afternoon. He climbed the cell phone tower to half of its height at 1.15 pm. From there, he started threatening to kill himself if the official concerned did not do justice to him. Raising slogans against the police and revenue officials, Swamy said that government had given eight acres of land to a group of SC people, including him, a few years ago.

Some people belonging to upper caste community occupied part of their land and set up a canal from it. He said that no action was taken till now even complained at police station and tahsildhar’s offices for several times. Humiliated at the official’s inaction, Swamy came to the city and attempted suicide. The revenue divisional officer of Kakinada, Mr. G.C Kishore Kumar swung into action by reaching the spot and suggested that Swamy get off the tower. Swamy got off from the tower at 4.40pm.
