Kakinada, Mar 23rd: To bring awareness among the people on Tuberculosis, the World Tuberculosis Day was observed every year on March 24. As a part of this a new project to identify children with tuberculosis and provide proper treatment to them is being launched by TB authorities in the State. The authorities have decided to launch a concerted effort and work closely with pediatricians at Government hospitals to support children with TB. The authorities are trying to organize workshops and seminars in all the districts to train the pediatricians who have less knowledge about the disease.
District TB control officer and secretary of TBSC N. Prasanna Kumar said that they have achieved 73% of target fixed by them in identifying the disease last year and however this year cure rate was around 95%with collective efforts of more than 2,000 DOT providers. He revealed that nearly 40,000 people are suspected to be infected with the disease, nearly 5,000 are confirmed. Two people die every minute in the country with the disease though it is curable, he added.
