Kakinada, Mar 8th: International Women’s day celebrations were organized at various government and private organization here on Monday. Kakinada city mayor Ms. Kavikondala Saroja said that the upliftment of the women can be done only through educating them. As part of the day’s celebrations organized at local Raja Tank on Monday, she stressed the need of empowering the women in a globalised world. The day was observed by conducting seminars and several cultural programs. Municipal commissioner G.S.N Murthy, Deputy Mayor P. Venkata Lakshmi, corporators and others participated in the program.

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada. The Center for Empowerment of Women of the university has organized a seminar on ‘Role of Women in the progress of communities’ at the university auditorium. Addressing the gathering, university vice chancellor, Mr. Allam Apparao stressed the role of women in the present world. He appreciated the present day women for their involvement in all achievements of the world and said that there is a huge need to educate the women in rural areas. Former vice-chancellor of Padmavathi University of Women, Ms Rajya Lakshmi also took part in the celebrations. Director of CEOW Ms. I. Santi Prabha and the president of CEOW Ms. A. Vijaya Lakshmi participated in the seminar.
