Despite of the continuous downpour, women are rushing the ongoing ‘Special Handloom Expo-2010' in the town. Saris, dress materials, shirting and other handloom material are on display in the expo being organized by the Department of Handlooms and Textiles at Pynda Chalamayya Srinivasa Kalyana Mandapam of Temple Street. Nearly 40 weavers from different parts of the State set up their stalls in the special exhibition, displaying saris and dress materials of Venkatagiri, Gadwal, Pochampally, Dharmavaram and Polavaram. The weavers competed with one another to put their ‘exclusive' saris on display. Though the wedding season is over, there is no drop in the demand for silk sarees Dress materials stand top in the sales in the expo with more and more women buying it. The expo that began on July 17 will be continued till the end of this month. A. Murali Krishna, Regional Deputy Director of the Department of Handlooms and Textiles said that “We are expecting a business of Rs.1 Cr from this fortnight-long expo. The response is good and we have good number of visitors every day”. The exhibition is on from 10am to 9pm every day and there is no entry fee.
