Hyderabad, July 31st: The web based counseling for Eamcet that began on Friday in 50 centers across the state turned out to be a major flop show with systems collapsing in few centers and the servers being out of order. A number of students and parents were disappointed with the situation. The new system introduced by the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education was unable to cope up with the huge rush of students. The National Informatics Center was awarded the contract worth Rs 50 lakh to conduct the web based counseling.

During the counseling a student was to be given a minimum of five options in each college, resulting in 3,000 options among 600 colleges. The NIC ignored this and used the same system which was devised for ICET and CEEP counseling for polytechnic admissions held earlier this month. NIC had decided to use only one server for Eamcet, but with the pressure from the officials it installed two additional servers. The technical experts say that at least 10 servers are needed to meet the rush for Eamcet.

The APSCHE has now convened an emergency meeting on Saturday. It is expected to extend the deadline for students to exercise options on the web in the meeting. Regarding the Eamcet rush, Prof K.C Reddy, chairman, APSCHE said that though there were some problems initially, they were rectified later. The NIC has decided to rope in more servers to meet the huge rush.
