Kakinada, Nov 9th: Lakhs of residents of five municipalities and one corporation in East Godavari district are eagerly waiting for protected water from the water supply project worth Rs 705 crore proposed in 2008. Almost a year has passed, but there has been no progress in the proposal. Opposition parties say that there is no proper coordination among the governing body, ministers and MLAs for asking the government to implement it.

According to sources, the water supply department officials in the district had proposed the project in November 2008 to provide around 30 million gallons of protected water per day to nearly 40 lakh people of Kakinada Corporation and five municipalities of Pithapuram, Mandapeta, Ramachandrapuram, Samalkot and Peddapuram. Water was proposed to be lifted from the Godavari at Dowlaiswaram. Speaking to media the municipal engineer of the Kakinada Municipal Corporation, Ms. P. Satyakumari said that the project had not materialized due to technical reasons.
