Kakinada, Oct 15th: The Zilla Parishad chairman, Mr. Ch. Srinivasa Venugopala Krishna directed the officials concerned to be ready to arrange alternative sources of irrigation water to meet the demands of rabi crop, as the water level of various water bodies including river Godavari were very less comparatively to that of the last year’s position. Presiding over the Zilla Parishad’s special general body meeting here on Thursday, the chairman raised the point when the irrigation department superintendent engineer was explaining the present water level in the water bodies in the district, in reply to a ZPTC members demand.
ZP chairman felt that already farmers in the district were unhappy over the kharif paddy cultivation due to the deficit rainfall. So, keeping the situation in view, it is the right time for the officials concerned to be more vigilant in terms of arranging sufficient sources to supply enough irrigation water to the rabi crop. Instead of mere hoping for rains, it is better to take alternative steps like preparing bore well to increase the quantum of water, Mr. Venu Gopalakrishna added.
