Kakinada, Oct 19th: Hundreds of rural villagers of Kakinada division in the district staged a dharna in front of the power sub-station at Suryaraopet demanding the authorities to stop frequent power cuts in their villages. Raising slogans against the government, the villagers led by their respective sarpanches and the Kakinada (rural) MLA, Mr. K. Kannababu, alleged that power distribution officials were interrupting power without any prior intimation from the past one week, resulting in disturbances to their regular duties and activities, particularly based on power.

Mr. Kannababu said government was selling power to other states leaving the local consumers to their fate. Due to continuous power interruption, the villagers were not able to operate their small scale industries, apart from all other duties, he added. The villagers warned the authorities that they were ready to intensify their agitation if officials concerned did not take a note of their problems.
