Prof. Allam Appa Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada was awarded the honorary ‘Colonel of the Regiment' by National Cadet Corps (NCC) at a function held here on Sunday in its premises. In the Armed Forces the ‘Colonel of the Regiment' is an honor conferred upon very senior officials and Prof. Appa Rao can enjoy the rank throughout his term as Vice-Chancellor of the University. Participating as the chief guest in the function, Deputy Director-General of the NCC, Andhra Pradesh, Air Commodore A.S. Bahal, stressed the need for enrolling students to the NCC, which would help them lead a disciplined life and achieve their goals. He said that discipline was the key to achieve anything in life and one could reach his/her goal with hard work, discipline and dedication. Thanking the NCC for conferring the honour on him, Prof. Appa Rao said his responsibility had been increased with the honour. He felt the need for encouraging students towards NCC and conducting army recruitment rallies on the campuses of all universities. Group Commander of the NCC A.S. Krishna Swamy, Wing Commander G.
