Tirupati, Aug 17th: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) will hold a five day Kareeri Ishti program to invoke Lord Varuna for copious rains in the state from August 19 to 23. This special yagam will be performed at Parveta Mandapam in Tirumala. Ritwicks and Vedic pandits will participate in the program.
The Opposition political parties had opposed Varuna Yagam by the TTD at Hyderabad recently. They demanded that the TTD hold the yagam in Tirumal or Tirupati and save the Rayalaseema region from drought. Interestingly, rains have lashed parts of Chitoor district for last three days, bringing respite to farmers and general public.
Meanwhile, the Telugu Desam SC cell state president, Mr. Varla Ramaiah criticized the TTD for its decision to conduct the Kareeri Ishto program, at a time when the state was witnessing good rains due to depression and when the weather department too was presenting a hopeful picture about the ensuing days, predicting copious rains.
