Tributes paid to Pithapuram Raja

Kakinada, Oct 5th: Rich tributes were paid to Sri Raja Venkata Kumara Mahipati Surya Rao Bahadur, the erstwhile Maharaja of Pithapuram, on the occasion of his birthday, at the P.R. Government (Autonomous) College here on Monday. The faculty, staff and old students of the college have also celebrated its 125th anniversary with Prof. M.V. Rao, former Vice-Chancellor of Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University as chief guest and the Maharaja’s youngest son Venkata Mahipati Rama Ratna Rao as a guest of honor.

The Pithapuram Raja College was established in 1884 by the Maharaja’s father Sri Raja Venkata Mahipati Gangadhara Rama Rao Bahadur. His son Surya Rao Bahadur nurtured the institution throughout his life. On the occasion, Prof. M.V. Rao said he was proud to be an old student of the college (from 1946 to 1948) and he was fully inspired with the missionary zeal with which Gangadhara Rama Rao Bahadur’s family had supported educational institutions and their valuable contribution to eradication of social evils.
