Residents in Kakinada experienced mild earthquake tremors at many places here on Wednesday around 2.30pm in the Afternoon. People ran out of their houses in panic and Employees from various organisations rushed to safety from their office buildings following a tremor. Official sources said the tremors were felt in Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Kakinada, Nellore, Tuni, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Tirupati & Ongole even National Geoggraphic Research Institute officials said there is a possibility for tsunami in the Indian shores following the major quake in Sumatra. The port city of Kakinada and other towns along the coast in East Godavari district experienced mild tremors shortly after 14:10 hrs creating panic among the people. Official sources also released a note that there is a chance for Tsunami threat at 5.30pm on the same day. According to this, Chief Minister Mr. N.Kiran Kumar Reddy asked the Collectors to take the help of Navy, Army & Air forces wherever necessary to face the impending Tsunami threat. District Collector released control room numbers as 0884-2365428, 2365424 for any help in the district. After 5.30pm, District Joint Collector Mr. Babu had announced that there is no Tsunami threat for India at present.
