Hyderabad, Oct 15th: Even as the death toll in the unprecedented floods in river Krishna rose to 90 with the recovery of 17 more bodies from the devastated areas in the last 24 hours, the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Thursday adopted a resolution thanking the Centre for its assistance. The state Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister K Rosaiah, in a resolution, thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for their aerial surveys and timely release of Rs 1,000 crore an as advance by the Centre for relief and rehabilitation works.
The Cabinet meeting, attended by all the Ministers after overseeing the relief operations in flood-hit districts, decided to contribute Rs 50,000 each by all the Ministers for the rehabilitation of over 18.96 lakh people displaced by the floods, Information Minister J Geeta Reddy told reporters. The worst-hit Kurnool district, accounted for a maximum of 47 deaths, followed by 32 in Mahabubnagar district, four each in Guntur and Nalgonda districts, and three in Krishna district. Over 89 lakh people were being accommodated in 118 relief camps in the affected areas, she said.
