Textiles Shops on Strike for VAT

Owners of Textile shops in Kakinada here on Monday went on  a strike with the support of ‘The Kakinada Cloth & Readymade Owners Association’ against the proposed hike in Value Added Tax (VAT) by the Government. They are demanding the Government to withdraw Value Added Tax (VAT) immediately on Textiles. The strike will continue till 31st of this Month. During this period, all the textile showrooms will be closed in Kakinada, added by the owners association. According to this, all the owners staged a protest in the Mainroad area and later, conducted a relay hunger strike at Masjid center area here on Monday. Speaking on this, Owners Association President, Mr. Bullchand stated that, ‘unless the Government agreed to their demand, the entire wholesale and retail trade could come to a total halt over the state later this Month’. Telugu Desam Party also announced their support to the textile shops owners.
