Terrorists attack on cops: one died

Hyderabad, May 18th: Terrorists attacked capital city on Monday evening resulting in the death of a home guard and causing severe injuries to a constable. The incident took place at Falaknuma substation while the cops were on duty as a part of security picket at Nagulkunta in Falaknuma. The attack occurred on the second anniversary of the Macca Masid blast on May 18, 2007.

 

According to the sources, the two policemen were sitting near a telephone booth at the time of incident. The gunmen parked their motorcycle in a near by lane, walked towards the policemen and shot them. They fired eight rounds before escaping. Home guard, G. Balaswamy of Mahbubnagar suffered five bullet injuries and was dead by the time he was taken to the hospital. Constable, Mr. T. Rajendra Prasad got injured in his chest and was shifted to private hospital.

 

A pamphlet that was left behind by the gunmen claimed that the attack was revenge to the death of five protestors in police firing that took place immediately after Macca Masjid blast. The commissioner of police, Mr. B. Prasad Rao said that the pamphlet was issued in the name of one Fasiuddin Amir. It also claimed to take revenge on all policemen, Mr. Rao said.

 

Police suspect the gunmen to be Viqar Ahmed alias Ali Khan and his brother-in-law Suleman. They opened fire on a police party in December 2008 at Santhoshnagar. Forensic experts said that the cartridges used in Monday’s attack were similar to those used in December.
