Temple to be closed during eclipses

Tirupati, June 26th: On the reason of three eclipses that are slated to occur in the space of a month the Tirumala temple, the abode of Lord Venkateswara will remain closed. The first in the series of celestial events would be the lunar eclipse on July 7, followed by solar eclipse on July 22 and another lunar eclipse on August 6.

 

As per the Agama Sastras, the temple would be closed during the eclipse periods and ritual of Alaya Sudhi will be performed. Only after the cleansing of the temple the devotees be allowed to have darshanam on the god. The TTD has requested pilgrims reaching Tirumala on those days to be prepared for inconvenience.

 

Meanwhile the neighboring Shiva temple at Srikalahasti is expecting a huge congregation of devotees from various parts of AP, Tamilnadu and Karnataka on the eclipse days. The time between the start and close of the eclipse is auspicious to perform Rahu Ketu Puja. However the temple is facing shortage of Naga Padigas which are important for performing the Rahu Ketu Puja.
