Teachers fight over transfers

Hyderabad, July 19th: For the second day on Sunday, teachers from rivals unions in Mahbubnagar attacked each other over transfers. On Saturday similar incident took place in Kurnool, Nizamabad and Nalgonda. The ongoing teachers transfer process has led to controversy in several districts. With the government taking up the teachers transfers issue after three years, there is huge rush to avail the scheme. Nearly two lakh teachers in the state have applied for transfers.

 

There are allegations that many teachers are submitting fake certificates pertaining to heart surgery, neuro surgery and other operations to earn “entitlement points” and claim posting at places of their choice. The medical certificates will fetch 10 points and help them claim transfers. The government has decided to initiate criminal action against such teachers. Several teachers submitted fake medical certificates issued by various hospitals recognized by the government stating they have undergone surgeries.

 

When officials in Muhbubnagar asked teachers to give an undertaking stating that they are liable for criminal proceedings of their certificates are found to be fake, 22 teachers immediately withdrew their transfer applications. The department of school education has warned teachers of criminal action if they found guilty. Director of school education, Ms Poonam Malakondaiah directed the district education officers to scrutinize the applications and take an undertaking from teachers.
