TDP ties with Left parties

Hyderabad, Nov 3rd: The main opposition Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh on Nov 3 decided to forge an alliance with the two main Left parties for the civic polls in the state capital, even as CPI (M) State Secretary B V Raghavulu made it clear that the party would not hesitate to go it alone in case the seat-sharing arrangement was not up to its expectations. Briefing on the deliberations at the party politburo chaired by TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu, senior TDP leader N Janardhan Reddy said the members of the highest-level decision-making body in the party, were for continuing the poll pact the TDP had forged in the April Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections, in the November 23 civic polls too.

Meanwhile, Mr Raghavulu told that talks with the TDP were yet to commence. Only preliminary level discussions were held with the CPI, he said, adding that the CPM was ready to go it alone in case satisfactory seat sharing could not be reached. The party had short listed the candidates and was closely watching the political equations before announcing the list, Dr Reddy said. The Left leaders, the TDP sources had sought 40 seats. But the TDP was facing pressure from within to restrict the number of seats to the Left parties as the TDP was sure to win projecting the all round development witnessed Hyderabad city when Mr Naidu was the Chief Minister, TDP sources said, adding, that a section of the party leaders insisted on keeping together anti-Congress forces.
