TDP MLA shifted to prison

Rajahmundry, July 21st: The Kovvur Telugu Desam MLA, Mr. T.V Rama Rao who is facing alleged charges of sexual harassment against nursing students, was taken to the Central Prison amidst tight security from Guntur at about 2.35 pm on Tuesday. He was taken by an ambulance from the government general hospital at Guntur to the Central Prison here on a stretcher into the jail. Jail doctors examined the MLA and his health condition was stated to be normal.

 

Meanwhile, Mr. Rama Rao’s wife, Ms Shesha Ratnam expressed anxiety over the health of her husband and found fault with state government for subjecting them to harassment by foisting false cases. She said that though doctors at the government hospital at Guntur recommended an angiogram to be performed at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad initially, later they changed their mind and allowed the TD leader to be taken away to the prison here.

 

A large number of Telugu Desam activists staged a demonstration wearing black badges in protest against the arrest of their leader. They took out a rally and staged a protest in front of the Gandhi statue and also in front of the Ambedkar statue. They also called for a bandh in Kovvur Assembly segment on July 22 as mark of protest.
