Target to enroll 33% girls in NCC

Tirupati, Aug 12th: Deputy Director General of AP Directorate (NCC), Air Commodore HJ Walia observed that a target was fixed to obtain 33 per cent enrollment of girl’s cadets in the next couple of years as against the present 27 per cent in the state. Speaking to the news media, Mr. Walia said that the state at present has 1.39 lakh cadets, both boys and girls. The number is likely to increase further with new enrolment drives. The current 60:40 percent ratio of cadets from rural and urban areas is satisfactory, he said.

Our state has won the All India Best Directorate award at the national level Thal Sainik competitions at New Delhi twice in 2007 and 2008. The NCC authorities are trying their best to score a hat trick this year, when the event is held in Delhi in early October. The short listed cadets from the state will leave for Delhi on September 18 from Tirupati where they will be trained for one month.

Mr. Walia told the cadets and senior NCC officers that the main objective of the NCC is to create equal opportunities for youngsters of all regions in nation building. NCC Tirupati unit PRO M.T. Ahmed said that as part of training, a series of competitions in hurdles, firing, tent pitching, health and hygiene, national integration and oriented cultural competitions were held.
