Kakinada, Dec 28th: Nearly 600 candidates from all over the country participated in the 24th national ITF Taekwondo Championship-2009, which commenced at the district sports at NFCL road here on Monday. The Andhra Pradesh Taekwondo Association is hosting the event. Participants from 18 states arrived here. Speaking to the media, the presidents of the Taekwondo Association in India and chairman of the expansion committee of the Asia Taekwondo Federation, Korea, Mr. Rajendran Balan, said that champions in the event would be allowed to participate in the Association's forthcoming championships in 2010.
The championship is being conducted for both girls and boys in the junior and senior levels. The Kakinada MP and minister of state for defense, Mr. M.M Pallam Raju while inaugurating the three-day event said that sports and games played a crucial role in a person's career and character. He stressed the need for greater encouragement for sports among children by parents and the teachers. The Kakinada (Urban) MLA and president of the Association, Mr. Dwarampudi Chadrashekar Reddy, and the event organizing secretary, Mr. K. Srinivasa Rao, were present among others.
