Hyderabad, Aug 4th: Following the death of a school girl in Pune due to the infection, the health officials in the state have asked schools and educational institutions to be on alert against swine flu. With the guidelines issued by the Union ministry of health and family welfare, the state officials asked the school management not to insist on production of medical certificate by students and staff in case they have flu like symptoms.

Officials also said students or staff members who have flu symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose and difficult in breathing must be allowed to stay in their homes for seven to 10 days. Educational institutions have been asked to monitor the health status of students or staff that might have come in contact with swine flu suspects. In case of students staying in hostels the status should be monitored and health care providers should wear all protective gear and wash hands regularly.

Schools have also been advised not to send boarders back home as it would spread the infection further. Schools were also asked to discourage students from visiting swine flu-hit countries.
