Srikakulam, June 12th: The RDT (Rapid Diagnostic Treatment) kits were supplied to 29 primary health centers in Srikakulam district by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases on Friday. In addition to this the kits were also supplied to four other districts which include Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, East Godavari and Khammam where malaria patients are found in large numbers.

The newly introduced kits detects malaria in an affected person in five minutes, this normally takes a week for an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM). The kit contains a stick, on which a drop of blood dropped will determine whether a person is affected with malaria or not. In traditional process blood samples will be collected and sent to the lab for diagnosis which takes a week to get the results. By this time the patient has to be left untreated and there are chances for the disease to advance further.
