Super Cyclone not yet confirmed

East Godavari District Collector, Mr. M. Ravi Chandra on Wednesday stated that there was no communication from the meteorological department with regard to the possible occurrence of ‘Super Cyclone' on 5th and 6th of November. As publicized by a section of media about ‘Super Cyclone', they did not receive any message from meteorological department he added. The Collector said that the district administration was fully prepared to mitigate the loss in the event of the occurrence of any such calamity. While addressing a press conference Collector said that, the leave applications of all the officials have been cancelled and those who are out of station will have to join their duties with immediate effect he added. Mr. Ravi Chandra said that first level and second-level relief camps were being arranged in the PG College hostels, as part of being prepared for the calamity. He said that 10 deaths and 5 cases of man missing were reported in the district in the last four days and standing crop of paddy was damaged in 87,962 hectares. The number of relief camps had been increased to 56 in which accommodation was provided to 30,682 persons so far. In addition, the District administration distributed 76,054 food packets to the cyclone victims. There is no lack of funds to take up relief and rehabilitation program. The State government has sanctioned Rs. 2 Cr in which we have withdrawn Rs. 1 Cr today he added. Joint Collector K. Sasidhar, District Revenue Officer S. Venkata Rao and others were present.
