Ravulapalem, Nov 23rd: Suicide attempt was made by young couple demanding solemnizing of their marriage. The incident took place in Ravulapalem in East Godavari District on Sunday when the young couple climbed a community water tank for suicide attempt which created lot of tension among locals.
According to sources Venkateswara Rao, a native of Ravulapalem and Vijaya Lakshmi of Rajahmundry fell in love about three years ago. Families of both the sides also agreed for their marriage and also fixed the marriage date. But due to some family disturbances the marriage was postponed.
The couple came to know that their families are trying to fix separate matches for each of them for which they decided to die. They climbed a community water tank for suicide attempt. Police and revenue officials intervened, assured them to fulfill their desire and asked the couple to climb down the tank. With the assurance provided by the police the couple came down and put off the drama.
Police took the couple into custody and filed suicide case on both of them and also warned them not to repeat the same in the future.
