Students fail to get scholarships

Kakinada, Nov 9th: Students pursuing intermediate and various professional courses at the under-graduate and post-graduate level are facing hardships as they did not receive post-metric scholarships from the state government to continue their studies in East and West Godavari districts. As the state government introduced the submission of applications  for getting scholarships online from the last academic year, the students are facing a lot of hardships on various grounds including the initial technical snags in registering their names online, opening the bank accounts and even operation of their accounts.

In East Godavari, nearly 40,000 students from more than 400 colleges are expected to get the post-metric scholarship worth nearly Rs 40 crore from the state government. Out of it, Rs 5 crore was given away to 3,500 students as arrears while 20, 200 applications have come for renewal for the current academic year and more that 15,000 fresh applications are expected to be received by the district authorities to sanction post-metric scholarship for current academic year. The East Godavari social welfare joint director, Mr. B. Nageswara Rao said that they are in the process of sorting out several problems and they are going to release the scholarships shortly.
