Hyderabad, July 15th: The students of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University demanded the university authorities to remove the credit system on Wednesday. According to the present system the students should get 56 credits to be promoted to the third year and 84 credits to get to the fourth year. The students demanded to change the system are at least reduce the credits required to get promoted to third and fourth year.
The students claim that due to this credit system, 13,000 JNTU students have not been promoted to the third year and fourth year this year. The students said the Osmania University also had the credit system, but it was scrapped. However the university officials said that only two percent of the students did not get the required credits and the university would not be able to chance rules for them.
The JNTU registrar, Dr. E. Saibaba Reddy said that students have to pass 50 percent of the subjects to go to the next year. The degree loses its value if the rule was removed and we can’t degrade the value of the degree by allowing everyone into the third and fourth years, he said.
