Kakinada, Oct 6th: Former vice chancellor of Acharya N G Ranga University, Prof M V Rao today advised the directors of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK) and other university teachers to give major thrust to research and individual patents instead of contenting themselves with traditional teaching. He stressed the need for focusing on research works by students of various educational institutions, particularly engineering, medicine and agriculture.
Highlighting the importance of research works, Mr. Rao felt that a nation can develop if its universities focus on research works, the yield of which should ultimately reach end users. An awardee of the prestigious Norman Borlaug award in 1992 for his outstanding contribution to the National Food Security Mission, and Padma Sri in 1998, Mr. Rao was invited by the management of the JNTU (Kakinada) on the campus on Tuesday. During his interaction with the registrar, Mr. V. Ravindra and directors of various departments of the JNTU, he said that faculty should be more informed than their students and always be ready to guide them.
