Stir by farm workers for work

Kakinada, Feb 22nd: A large number of farm workers and tenant farmers, owing allegiance to the Akhila Bharata Rythu Coolie Sangham, on Monday staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate here in support of their demand for providing employment for 150 days under the NREGS, paying Rs 150 daily wage, to prevent migration in search of livelihood. They raised slogans and wanted identity cards for all the tenant farmers and pattas to poor farmers. The other demands included distribution of 'Bhoodan' ceiling lands to the landless poor, sanctioning of loans to all the members of the Rythu Mithra Groups and taking up execution of Yeleru modernisation works without further delay.

Dharna by Vidya Volunteers

Vidya Volunteers who were removed from their work staged dharna at the collectorate demanding to provide alternate work for them. Speaking on the occasion Vidya Volunteers district president, K. Simhadri alleged that the government is removing the jobs of the Vidya Volunteers in name of the DSC and not providing any alternative jobs for them. Vidya Volunteers society members Durga Prasad, Eswarrao, Srinivas and others took part in dharna.
