Steps to tackle viral fever

Rajahmundry, Aug 18th: Health authorities are taking up various steps to tackle viral fever in the agency areas in wake of increasing cases in Rampachodavaram in East Godavari. As many as 12,923 blood samples were collected from August 1 to 18 and of these, 245 were tested positive for malaria. Nearly seven deaths were reported by the authorities due to malaria.

A large number of tribals approach local quacks for medical aid for health problems. The quacks even give shots of chloroquine to these patients and due to over dosage of which can cause damage to the liver and other vital parts of the body. Health authorities are raising concern over the situation. After not getting relief they approach the hospitals, where they often die.

The district administration has initiated measures and senior health officials are camping in the Agency to monitor the situation. The administration has deputed 18 medical officers from the available 27 vacant posts to provide medical care to tribals. Early diagnosis, in addition to the prompt and complete treatment is the only means to tackle viral fevers reaching epidemic proportions in the Agency.
