Steps to meet low rainfall

Kakinada, Aug 5th: The East Godavari district administration initiated steps to meet the situation that arose out of poor rainfall in district in present rainy season. A special contingency plan is being implemented to meet the situation. It was noticed that the rainfall in present season fell short by 42 percent in the district. Authorities are giving top priorities to drinking water and agricultural needs. Steps are also taken to avoid pollution of drinking water sources on various storage and irrigation tanks on the identified mandals.

 

The district officials directed the rural water supply (RWS), district medical and health, besides panchayat raj departments to effectively monitor waster resources to prevent spread of diseases due to water contamination. The RWS was told to take appropriate steps to meet the shortage of drinking water and go for alternative arrangements. The irrigation officials had to monitor water supplies to tail-end farmers.

 

The collector, Mr. Gopala Krishna Dwivedi said all departments were directed to send proposals for financial allocations to various departmental heads at the state-level to meet the financial needs for effective implementation of the plan. He revealed that the administration has taken up special monitoring for implementation of the plan.
