State-level units to be set up soon

Samalkota, Nov 30th: To help mitigate loss of life and property during natural calamities,  a state-level unit similar to national disaster management authority (NDMA) will be set up in all the states as the talks to that effect were being held with the state governments. The NDMA's member, Dr Mohan Kanda, told on Nov 30 that efforts were on to set up state-level authorities to help mitigate loss of life and property in case of natural calamities like floods and earthquakes affecting the people in the states and reffering to the recent floods that ravaged several districts in the state, he said that the authority if existed could have come to the rescue of people immediately.

He said based on the directions from the NDMA, committees were set up under the supervision of the Chief Minister in the state and collectors in the districts to carry out awareness drive among the general public on how to minimise the loss in case of occurence of natural calamities. He also said that efforts were on to incorporate technical aspects to handle the crisis situation during natural calamities in the regular curricular of high school and collegiate education especially in engineering courses. They will also avail the services from corporate agencies apart from the government machinery to extend help to the affected people during natural calamities.
