Kakinada, May 17th: Following the orders given by district collector, Mr. Gopala Krishna Dwevedi, the Sri Lankan refuges that were rescued by the local fisherman last month were sent back to Chennai on Sunday by local police. The Lankans lost their way while traveling from war-torn Mullaitivu to Rameswaram. Out of the 21 who started at Sri Lanka, 10 lost their lives on the high seas due to starvation and dehydration. The remaining were brought to Uppada coast which is 16 Km from here. The victims were shifted to Kakinada Government hospital for treatment.
The refugees will be handed over to the commissioner of the rehabilitation, Government of Tamilnadu. According to the doctor of the general hospital, the condition of all the refugees was serious at the time of admission into hospital but now they recovered after treatment and declared nothing serious about their lives. The woman who was admitted in the intensive care unit also recovered from the shock and was discharged from the hospital on Sunday. The ten members include 4 women and a year old child.
