Kakinada, Feb 23^rd: On the eve of Mahasivaratri special poojas were offered to god Siva. From the early hours of Monday all the temples of Siva were filled with huge number of devotees. Serpentine queues were seen at many temples. Initially in the early hours special abishekams were done to god and later decorated the god with holy clothes and flowers. Special poojas were performed at Kumara Bhimeswara temple at samalrlakota, Kukkuteswara Swamy temple at Pithapuram, Bhimeswara temple at Draksharama and other temples in the district. Poojas were also offered at the ancient Bhavanarayana Swamy temple at Sarpavaram in Kakinada rural Mandal.

On this occasion Veerabhadruni Sambaralu were also done by some devotees. Poojas were also offered to Kalabhairava Swamy, one of the forms of Siva by fisher flock. Charitable and voluntary organizations has made arrangements for drinking water and distributed tamarind rice to devotees. The revenue and the police departments took all safety measures for smooth darshanam. Special services were introduced by the railway department to meet the pilgrim rush. These services will operate for three days from Sunday to Tuesday. APSRTC has also has also made arrangements by running special bus services.
