Kakinada, May 10^th: The East Godavari district authorities have taken up a special drive to check the quality of drinking water and measures to streamline supplies in areas where shortage of drinking water was noticed. The special drive was launched in all 1,103 villages and habitations in 60 mandals and nine municipal areas, including the two corporations of Kakinada and Rajahmundry. The administration has instructed all the departments to keep a close watch on the supply and the quality of the drinking water.

The departments were directed to check pipeline leakage and get the defects rectified immediately. They were ordered to remove the pipelines passing trough drainages without delay. They were also directed to keep close watch on reports appearing in medical reports and take appropriate action with in 24 hours on the issues concerned and also ordered to start control rooms at their respective places to monitor the situation.

East Godavari District collector, Mr Gopala Krishna Dwevedi said that the concerned departments were directed to attend to the complaints within 24 hours of receipt. He warned to take severe action on the authorities if any complaints of people falling sick by drinking polluted water were received.
