Kakinada, Nov 21st: East Godavari District Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi on Saturday said the government would assist the farmers whose paddy crop was damaged due to flooding in the recent untimely heavy rainfall. Addressing the Tahsildars and Agricultural Officers here on Saturday, he said steps were being initiated to purchase the discoloured paddy by opening special counters relaxing the FCI norms and conditions. The rice millers were also requested to purchase the discoloured paddy.
Preliminary survey reports indicated of the total five lakh acres of paddy, nearly one lakh acres was affected by floods and crop damaged. Now, detailed survey was being done on the extent of crop area affected by floods and the loss sustained by the farmers along with survey numbers. The Revenue and Agricultural Departments combined enumeration teams would submit the detailed survey reports on the status of farmers. The Collector further said efforts were being made to provide assistance to the farmers whose crop was damaged to the extent of 50 per cent from the Crop Insurance and Natural Calamities Fund.
