Rajahmundry, Jan 15th: With a steep rise in the power consumption and dwindling generation of power through conventional process, the onus has fallen on alternative sources to meet the changing power needs. The ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) headed by Mr. Farooq Abdullah has initiated measures to fill the gap in the form of renewable energy. As part of it, the promotion of solar energy was taken up in AP.
Under this process the solar energy will be converted into electrical energy to meet the domestic consumer needs in a big way. Apart from pilgrim and tourism places, the facility was extended to domestic consumers from the new year (2010) by NEDCAP (Non-Conventional Energy Development Corporation of AP). The system generates power from I kilowatt to 10 kilowatt per day. It costs Rs 2 lakh per installation of I Kw of power out of which the consumer will get subsidy upto 50 percent on the cost of the needed equipment.
