Kakinada, Jan 27th: The government general hospital, Kakinada is facing shortage of specialist doctors in five branches. The efforts made by the hospital administration did not yield any results and the posts are vacant since 3 months. The Kakinada general hospital is the only teaching hospital in both the east and west Godavari districts. The hospital which has 23 wards has super-specialty care in some departments. The departments like cancer, plastic surgery, gastroenterology, urology and cardio thoracic surgery are affected due to vacancies.
Hospital development society chairman and district collector, Mr. Gopala Krishna Dwivedi said that, they could not take any action on the issue as there was a ban on appointment of doctors on contract basis. He revealed that they have taken the issue to the notice of the government and will soon take necessary action. Government general hospital superintendent Dr. M.B.R Sharma said that the government has given permission to appoint one specialist doctor every day from vizag to the cancer ward needs.
