Hyderabad, Aug 18th: Due to shortage of doctors in hospitals, the state government has decided to employ qualified doctor’s from private hospitals to teach in government medical colleges. There are at least 600 vacancies in these colleges. The minister for medical education, Mr. P. Sudarshan Reddy, said doctors hired from private hospitals would teach specialized subjects. Initially these doctors would teach at the government medical colleges in Anantapur district.
The minister revealed that the respective government hospitals will decide the salaries for this faculty. As a pilot project, only colleges in Anantapur will be allowed to hire private doctors. Later, it would be extended to other major medical colleges across the state in phased manner. There is an acute shortage of post graduate teaching staff, he said. Meanwhile, in the wake of many complaints the state government has also decided to upgrade the services of major government medical colleges, including Gandhi Hospital and Osmania General Hospital.
