Hyderabad, Oct 27th: Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Oct 27 pressed for separate political reservation for Muslims without affecting the quota for Backward Classes (BCs) in connection with coming civic polls in the state capital. He urged the Congress Government to scrap Government Orders 3 and 496 for exclusion of BCs with income of over Rs four lakh for the purpose of reservation. The Government had only kept under abeyance GO 496 in the wake of widespread protests, he claimed.

The ordinance promulgated by the State Government to provide reservation for Muslims under BC-'e' category in connection with the holding of civic polls in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, infringed upon the quota for BCs, he claimed, adding that Muslims should be provided separate reservation. There could be no two opinions on providing separate political reservation for Muslims, he said.

Mr Naidu alleged that the Rosaiah Government had failed to tackle the situation in the wake of unprecedented flood and also outbreak of water-borne and vector-borne diseases in different parts of the state. Chief Minister K Rosaiah had also failed to pull up the Ministers concerned who were deeply engrossed in internal power politics in the ruling party, neglecting people's problems. Even after one month, debris had not been cleared from the worst-affected Kurnool.
