Kakinada, Oct 16th: The Sarpanches of 33 peripheral villages at their meeting held at Nemam village 10kms from Kakinada on Oct 14 have resolved to lay seize of the Zilla Parishad hall and stall the proceedings of the ZP general body meeting on Oct 15, in protest against the move to merge villages in the Kakinada municipal corporation. Mr Kona Ramakrishna Nemam sarpanch, who has presided, said that they would fight out tooth and nail the merger proposal as the decision was unilateral setting aside the public opinion.

The Kakinada rural MLA Kurasala Kannababu participating as the chief guest assured the Sarpanches that he would raise the issue in the next session of Assembly mobilizing the support of other MLAs against the merger proposal. He said the merger was detrimental to the interests of the villages as the people have to bear the additional tax burden without any development. He said we are ready for waging a legal battle against the un-democratic move of the government.
