Saina creates history

Hyderabad, June 21st: 19-year-old ace shuttler Saina Nehwal created history by winning the Super Series tournament in the Indonesian Open final in Jakarta on Sunday. Saina is the first Indian women to win the tournament. She bagged the same by defeating world No: 3 Lin Wang of China by scoring 12-21, 21-18, 21-9. The first game was little bit shaky and the Indian ace rallied her way back in second game. Leveled 17-17, Saina went on to pocket the game 21-18.

 

In the decider, the Hyderabadi was at her attacking best. After moving neck and neck till 7-7, Saina went berserk by engaging her rival in soft dribble and net play to widen the gap at 15-9 before reeling off six straight points to seal her place in history. Speaking to the media persons here on Sunday Saina felt very happy with the win and said that she was very confident in achieving the future goals.

 

This is Saina’s third major victory after winning the 2006 Philippines Open and the Chinese Taipei Grand Prix in September. She was also crowned the 2008 World Juniors champion in Pune. Crediting Saina’s win as the biggest achievement in her career, national coach Pullela Gopichand said this feat will boost badminton in India.
